A High Standard
We really did it because of this little development in Marathon netgaming called the Metaserver. With the metaserver, it is possible for total strangers to play each other over the Internet without having said a single word to each other. With the wide variety of players online, we soon discovered that hosts often chose horrible maps and scripts for their games.
How do we have the right to criticize? When you are looking for a good game and the only thing that comes up is "50 minutes of Who's Got The Itchies" or "Return to Waldo with Homing Rockets," it is easy to become frustrated. The big Marathon content center is Fileball. It has some good stuff. but a lot of bad. Nothing by Irons is available there anymore.
The original basis for this site was the Downloads section. We intended to offer the best maps and scripts for network gaming. With diverse offerings, we have succeeded in carving a niche for the "high-quality netgame" experience. There are several Marathon archive sites, but none of them has a rigorous screening process, which is fine. Until some guy decides to upload a map that is absolutely horrible.
The idea here is that this site provides only the best maps and scripts. Don't believe us? Ask around, or try them out for yourself.
