You've probably been waiting a long time to see what the hell the fuss is about. After many blog posts, late nights, skipped classes, and more than one UML diagram, we finally arrive at JUICE v1.0
To download it, check out the JUICE page. If you want to see what it can do, take a look at the online manual.
Enjoy!
Treellama's Quick Six has had a bug or two fixed, and the level Age of Aquarius is now more balanced, thanks to some weapon changes. If you don't know where to find it, I have no pity for you.
Ryoko and Screaminfool are cooking up new versions of Infinity's netmaps. So far, they only have a few, but the work continues.
You'll notice I didn't link to Second Quest. Why? Since Second Quest isn't yet finished, it didn't belong in the regular map downloads section. So I made a new home for it and future projects like it: Maps in Progress. You can use that direct link, or access the page from the regular Map Downloads page.
We've finally updated the CTF/Lua script to v4.0. Among its changes are the use of actual team spawns, real base polygons, and some other interesting features. Maps made for version 3 are
Because of the compatibilities introduced with CTF v4.0, we've made Magenta Filter compatible with it. Both CTF v3 and Magenta filter v1 will still be available on Fileball, but you should upgrade both the script and the pack if you plan on hosting games. Check the maps page for the new version of Magenta Filter.
W'rkncacnter has finally put together a small but diverse collection of his maps and made a pack, called
Ryoko has fixed some untexutred areas on a map and given us this bugfix update of Red Spectrum. You ought to know where to get it.
Screamingfool has once again updated revel. It has a new level! Maps page is the place to be.
House of Luck now has a simple newsfeed that syndicates the latest news items. It's also been embedded in the HOL Companion.
Red Spectrum, like my own glorious map pack, has come to rest. Ryoko has added two maps, removed another (Tower of Hanoi), and bumped Red Spectrum to version 2, thus closing it permanently. Word on the street is, these new maps are amazing. A fitting end to what I consider to be the greatest map pack ever, in any game. He may not have hit the traditional Doom "Megawad" mark, but 30 levels is enough for me, especially if they're good. Thanks, Ryoko, for brining Red Spectrum to us for two years. Expect an article soon on the huge influence of this pack. Until then, get the damn thing at the Maps page.
Your favorite utility is now in version 0.3. What's new:
It was hard work, but W'rkncacnter and I did it. Download the fruits of our labor from JUICE's page.
I have changed two things in this release of Underworld. The first is aesthetic: I've added a size designation like the ones in Red Spectrum and Revel to the level select names in my maps. The second reason is more of a bug fix; the version of JUICE that I used to edit certain things in Underworld 2.0 did not update the map file's checksum. This could cause problems with saved games and films. I've fixed it. So go to the Maps page to get this update. You'll want it for net compatibility in case someone hosts a game and you save the film.
Screamingfool has fixed a few bugs, mainliny involving visual clipping, and has released v3.1 of his pack. It is available from the link below.
Earlier this year, Ryoko and I discussed our top picks of 2006. Screamingfool was among the two most promising mappers of the year; his latest version of Revel is the first pack we've
It's finally here! After waiting for a bugfix version, I've uploaded the Kill Them All project, 15 short, sweet single-player maps. I'm a netgame guy, but I love playing these things. Pick up the pack now and try going through it on Total Carnage.
Ryoko's latest mapmaking contest has had some amazing entries. This pack contains the top seven. Go to the Maps page to get Victory Dance III.
Two new maps (one seen in Victory Dance III) and some improvements, all in one pack: the last version of Underworld! Go to the maps page to get it. The walkthroughs for the last two maps will be available soon.
For those of you who have been following our little homebrew editor, there is a new version with tons of new features. It's definitely worth checking out.
We have decided to abandon the idea of entirely emulating Forge's behavior in JUICE, and have instead decided to focus on stability and extra functionality. Thanks to this paradigm, JUICE can perform some tricks that no other editing tool can do. This new page takes place of the old "Hex Hacks" article.
A truly enlightened man has allowed me to place his photographs on this site. His name is Syringe Guy. Meet him in the Articles section.
It turns out that the new maps had a few issues. So I fixed them for Underworld 1.9.1. I also added the "alternative" names for the maps (they show up on the overhead map screen). Get it from map downloads.
The Coriolis Loop unimap will not be on Fileball. I have hidden all my own Fileball projects from the public, so the only place to get my stuff or the Coriolis unimap is on this site.
After about 10 years of sitting on Fileball as a .sit.hqx file, Coriolis Loop is now in a more universal format. As a "unimap," it will run on any current version of Aleph One (Windows, Mac, Linux, etc) while retaining the information formerly stored on its resource fork (in the case of Coriolis, the terminal PICTs). I also zipped it so that people without macs can decompress it. It should be updated on Fileball very soon, but it's also available on the map downloads page.
A useful little utility for editing game type flags in maps is now available! Look at the new Programs section to find it.
The new maps in Underneath the Radar v1.9 now have companion walkthroughs on the site. Look here to read them.
Underworld has reached version 1.9 with two new maps. They're damn good, so get Underworld from the Map Downloads page.
A new project is in its initial stages. It's called Elements. Initial ideas are available from this blog search, but all new ideas will be here. These posts should give you a good idea what the project is.
I added a Links Section to the site. Most prominent in this section is perhaps the HOL Companion Weblog. I generally hate blogs, and I know you do too, but this one might be useful. And Ryoko is co-authoring it! Check it and the Links section out. Expect more links over time. Check the section out every now and then, because I probably won't post a News item every time I update a link.
W'rkncacnter has changed the Elimination script to play a sound and display a message to team mates when a player picks up an invisibility. Also added is the script's ability to remove all Infravision powerups in a map as soon as they spawn (Infravision does not distinguish team mates from enemies).
Go to the usual place to get the new version.
Ryoko has been squirming to fix some bugs, add ammo, and inclued the wonderful Collaboration maps in Red Spectrum 1.7 (Deluxe).
Fileball already has the updated version, and if you're reading this, so does the House of Luck.
Stop by Map Downloads to get the new version. Also note that Collaboration is no longer available as a separate map pack, since it's now in Red Spectrum.
Not much new here, either, but I'm back to using version numbers, and I've replaced or added some annoying powerups. Get it the from Maps section.
With a load of bug fixes and feature additions, W'rkncacnter has changed the name of his LMOTH project to Elimination. Here's the breakdown of why:
Head over to the Scripts page to check it out.
W'rkncacnter's at it again. This time, the script creates a game type that began as a joke: LMOTH. It stands for Last Man On The Hill, and it's more fun than you might think. I've helped W'rkncacnter fix a few bugs, so he has taken the script down from Fileball until it stabilizes. House of Luck will be its host in the meantime.
Look in the Scripts section to get it.
Word on the street is W'rkncacnter is planning on adding automatic team support to the script, so keep your eyes peeled for an update to that effect. Or to any updates, as we may fix critical bugs. Check back to this News page often in order to keep updated.
Ryoko has also been busy. He released Red Spectrum version 1.7 yesterday, and after three re-merges (damn bugs), version 1.73 is ready. While the bugs appear to be mostly gone for now, check back here from time to time to see if anything important gets fixed. While it's available on Fileball, you can also get v1.73 from our own Maps page. And we'll be able to update more quickly!
RS 1.73 adds four new maps and remakes an old one. See the included Readme for details.
I've also been a little busy. I managed to create a remake of Treble Clef (a map from Azure Dreams), and a brand-new map, which is big enough for 8-player games! Finally! These have been added to Underworld and, combined with some bugfixes and slight tweaks for older maps, the new release is dubbed Underworld Y. Get it from the Maps section.
The largest "tweak" is that Born Slippy NUXX has a greater weapon and ammunition count than before. It even includes two SPNKRS. I did this to allow for larger games.
The Underworld Walkthrough Guide is also in the process of being updated.
After hearing about some intense team KOTH games on the Metaserver, I decided to fix an inconvenient bug in my old script, and I also took away the useless team mate name/health feature. Get it from Script Downloads.
In case you were too dumb to notice, the site is in a completely new format. I mean, I literally opened Vim and started from scratch. So here's the stuff:
We have done a lot of work to get most of the articles in place, but Magenta Filter's map walkthroughs are still in progress. They'll get done soon enough, but I wanted to get the rest of the new site on its feet again.
I hope you enjoy the new site. Thanks to Ryoko for most of the design ideas.
My net map pack, Underworld, has received some upgrades:
